Catholic Schools Plan for Great Teachers = Great Results

​A forum which discussed plans for delivering on the objectives of the Queensland Government’s Great Teachers = Great Results initiative in Catholic schools was hosted by the Queensland Catholic Education Commission on Monday 25 August.

​​The Great Teachers = Great Results program will deliver around $52million to the Catholic sector over the next four years to promote professional excellence in teaching. 

“Quality teaching is the ​single greatest contributor to improving outcomes for our students. This additional funding will assist Catholic schools to further support teachers to develop their skills and consider new ways to improve teacher quality and performance. The Catholic sector commends the State Government for allowing the flexibility to tailor reforms to the individual needs and circumstances of our schools. This planning forum will be an important step for our schools in the process of developing their program implementation plans.” QCEC Executive Director Mike Byrne said.

​The forum combined expert presentations by representatives of the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL), Queensland Education Leadership Institute (QELi) and the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT), along with opportunities for discussion and sharing of ideas.

​​Catholic school authorities will develop a three year (2015-2017) program overview plan by mid-November with final implementation plans, including timelines for key professional development activities and events, and expected outcomes, by mid-February 2015. The Catholic sector will report annually in September of each year as part of Queensland Government reporting requirements.

​There are 296 Catholic schools in Queensland educating almost 1 in 5 Queensland students and employing more than 10,000 teaching staff.
